Infections from hospital births

Today’s Boston Globe has an article on MRSA infections affecting 19 newborns and 18 mothers after delivering at BI. I am by no means a complete germophobe, nor do I think that hospitals are the only place where people can acquire such infections (the second page of the article online actually makes that point nicely). Nevertheless, I did feel glad that by having a homebirth and being in control of all visitors, my baby and I were reducing our chances of catching something like this infection.
