image003Here’s your three-month warning: save the afternoon (4-6pm) of Thursday, September 3rd, for this panel presentation and discussion.

Full disclosure: I’m one of the speakers, and I’ll be talking about women’s Internet birth narratives and the imagery they use (of heroism, passion, and animals, among other things) when describing their births relative to medical interventions. The other two panelists are fabulous: Claudia Olivetti will talk about the economics of birth from a historical perspective, and Gene Declerq will talk about the realities of birth in the US today from a public health perspective.

Organized and sponsored by the BU Women’s Studies Program, the talk will be at the George Sherman Union at BU, right on Comm. Ave (BU Central Green Line B T stop) and is open to the public. Anyone interested, from academics to midwives to moms with babies, is welcome to attend.

(Thanks to the talented Nikki McClure who gave us permission to use her beautiful and striking image in our publicity for the talk!)
