Happy Labor Day, moms/midwives!

Happy Labor Day to all moms and midwives out there! Yes yes yes–I know that Labor Day the holiday, today, has nothing to do with labor and birth. Semantically, it’s a pleasing coincidence, though, and since last year I was due with my baby at the end of August, I really thought I might actually labor on Labor Day. That would actually have been a nightmare for me, since last year Labor Day was also September 1st, and in my corner of Boston, September 1st is a freakish 24-hour-plus marathon of moving vans and double-parked cars and extra rounds of garbage trucks picking up the discarded futons on the sidewalk and shouting students and banging doors. . .

Thankfully, that did not happen: I had a calm, shout-free and bang-free labor a little over a week before Labor Day, and this year I made my husband celebrate the anniversary of my labor day with a nice lunch out (baby too, of course).
