More on the Grand-duggar. . . (homebirth)

Annoyingly, some combination of my cable and my Tivo did not record the Grand-duggar episode last night. I found this teaser clip online though (click on “Whoa, baby” at left), and there are some interesting discussions of the homebirth on various sites (ranging from mom-forums to celebrity sites). One neat thing is that a lot of the discussions actually seem to be pretty positive on homebirth.

And, meanwhile, my Tivo says it’ll record the birth episode on the 20th.

I watched it – it was nearly an hour of background about their relationship and about two minutes of birth. Some interesting conversation hinted at about why they chose a homebirth (seems they had an ob that was out of town and the mom didn’t like that she wouldn’t know the attending OBs…)

I was surprised it was presented as almost a last minute decision…not so surprised there was no attempt at skin to skin contact when the baby was born, given their religious beliefs. But all in all it was a very normal, drama-free homebirth.

well, drama-free is good. 🙂 skin-to-skin would have been better, but we’ll take what we can get. thanks for the report!

I was also disappointed by the lack of skin to skin contact but at the same time it’s hard to know at what point after birth we were entering in. Hopefully the had attempted breastfeeding BEFORE all the film crew held the baby (atlhough I thought that was a nice gesture towards the friendships that they obviously have with the crew).
