The mortality rate of California women who die from causes directly related to pregnancy has nearly tripled in the past decade, prompting doctors to worry about the dangers of obesity in expectant mothers and about medical complications of cesarean sections.
Wow, I’m at a loss for words how to best sum up this article. I just have to recommend that you take a minute and read it for yourselves. The last time there was a jump in maternal deaths in such a short time was in the 1930s, and there is concern that this is not just a trend in California, but perhaps nationally. When are we going to wake up and realize that all these medical technologies being used during birth are setting us further and further back rather than carrying us forward? It makes me so frustrated and sad.
