Did you know, dear readers, that doulas are not there just to assist with the birth? That they offer valuable services for after the birth as well? MA Post partum doulas Sharon and Deborah share with us today how the services this kind of doula offers can help new families in the critical post partum period.

The Value of a Postpartum Doula

The Postpartum Doula cares for the mother and her family in their home following the birth of their baby(ies) for weeks.   We provide non-medical support and companionship.  We also assist with newborn care, sibling adjustment, meal preparation and household organization.  In addition, we offer evidence-based information on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from childbirth and other issues related to the postpartum period, and can make referrals if necessary.

Our goals as postpartum doulas are to create a calm atmosphere for the joyous occasion of the arrival of each family’s newborn(s).  We listen to and observe the needs of each individual family and strive to meet them.

Deborah and Sharon
