Babies, that’s what it’s all about!

A lot of people I know–mostly moms, but some vocal dads too–are very excited about the upcoming documentary Babies, a cross-cultural look at childbirth and parenting. It opens in Boston next Friday, and it’s definitely on my list to see–in fact, I think it will be my first movie in an actual theater since I was pregnant!

Yesterday I just read the the US family–based in Oakland, CA, but listed as living in San Francisco proper–had their baby at home, though the homebirth isn’t featured in the film. Sadly, after the birth they transferred to a hospital, and apparently there’s some high-tech NICU footage that is definitely going to color the way the American birth is seen in the movie. But still, that’s pretty cool–the American baby in the movie, born at home with a midwife!
