Applause

A friend of mine from high school, reconnected last year through a babywearing group online, just had her second child and first home birth. Her son, almost four years old, was holding onto her arm during her last few pushes, and was right there when they greeted the new baby sister. The cord tore when she came out, though (midwives apparently determined it was just an exceptionally short cord) and they urged a more managed delivery of the placenta than would otherwise have been the case to make sure there were no tears to the placenta, etc. When the placenta came out intact, the midwife said something like, “Ah, perfect!” and the four-year-old broke into spontaneous applause. What a cool home birth! Yay, H. and T.!
